Design Wall (tutorial)

After working with design walls I really wanted one!! Bad!! I currently sew in my laundry room which has no space for a design wall. I thought about moving the office into the laundry room and turning the office into my sewing room. But there is just too much office stuff to fit into the laundry room. So we (hubby helped me) put up a design wall in the hall way!! No one will really see it so it works out great! So here is a tutorial of sorts on my design wall process.

Here is a list of things we purchased to make a 6'x8' wall:
ceiling tiles 2'x4' (we cut them in half to make 2'x2')
duct tape
nails
9 yards of flannel

You will also need a level and a hammer.

*cut flannel 27'x27'
*lay tile on top of flannel. I turned the tile upside down because I wanted the back side for my wall. Less holes.

*tape each side taut.

*fold corners in and tape.

*finish same process with remaining tiles.

*make sure your first tile is level. You don't want a crooked design wall do you?

*hammer a nail in each corner.

*continue the bottom row using the level as you go.

Stand back and admire your work!!

Now you can see what I have been working on. On the left I put together Pretty in Pink from Livin' Large by Heather Mulder Peterson. I used a Oh Cherry Oh layer cake. On the right I started my In the Leafy Treetops by Nanette Merrill. Most of the fabrics are from Nanette's fabulous collection.

Before I go, Kim over at bitty bits & pieces is having a giveaway. Go check it out!

Kitties, Winning, Pink and Sneak

Kelee over at The Katillac Shack had a life-saving Dog Scarf Project and I decided to participate. Simply by decorating an Oliver Wendell "Play Strong" scarf and sending Keelee a pic of my creation I can earn a $10.00 donation to help abandoned pets. Many animals are abandoned due to the increasing home foreclosure and job loss here in the states.

Kelee emailed me and said I helped earn $20. because I sent these two pictures of my cats with my designed scarf. I was happy to help. I love my kitties!!

Look what I won from Lyn over at Moore Patchwork & Quilting! Yipee!! Thanks Lyn!

When I grow up I want to be just like Nanette!! I had to get a "pink book" too! Ohhhh, and it's a good one!

Here is a sneak peek of what I'm working on this week. It's a birthday surprise!! I better go and get it finished!!

Independence Day

First off, I want to give a shout out the men and women who are currently serving in our military! I also want to thank my grandfather who served during World War 2 and my own father who fought during the Korean War. You all are my hero!!

So here is what we did to celebrate the 4th of July! Some time during the course of the day we watch this:

It's tradition!! "It ain't over till the fat lady sings"!

My sister and her family came out to help us celebrate our Independence Day!! Dad provided the meat and my sister and I dived up the rest. Oh, and how we can eat!!

When it got dark we headed up to the fair grounds to watch the fireworks. Before the show began the committee gave a small ceremony to give recognition to individuals or groups in our community. This year the volunteer fire stations (we have three) received the "Service Spotlight Award".

There's Mr. P&L on the far right!! My son's name was also read, but he is far far away serving a mission for our church.

Here we are waiting and trying to cool off with snow-cones! It was a sizzling hot day!

The fam!

More fam!

In case you didn't know what day it is!!

Time for dessert!! A while ago Des over at Quilt Taffy made a potluck dessert that I really wanted to try. You can read about it here. Well, I got this idea to twist things up a bit. You know...something a little red, white and blue!!

I substituted chocolate cake with white cake. Chocolate pudding to white chocolate pudding. (I used 2 small instead of one large box of pudding, in case you were wondering!) And instead of heath bars I used strawberries and blueberries.

YUMMO!!! Yea, it's all gone!

Thanks for stopping by to see how we celebrated our Independence Day!

Sew-Along Done

I finished my quilt for Old Red Barn's Quilt-Along!!!

I used Flights of Fancy featuring Paula Prass for Michael Miller. Extra points baby...extra points!! I am so pleased on how it turned out! The sew-along was fantastic and Dana did a great job with the tutorials. Dana's instructions were easy to follow and very clear.

Here's the back. I quilted this bad boy myself using the stitch regulator on my Bernina!! Let me tell ya...this was the first BIG quilt I quilted myself!! And I deserve a pat on the back...thank you very much!

Here it is all finished looking pretty on the quilt stand!

I worked on this quilt this week! The pattern is from Stop, Drop and Roll by Heather Mulder Peterson. It is for my sister for her birthday. It will be a surprise!! Shhh, don't tell her! She never reads my blog so I'm not too worried...
